Ephesians 4:20-24

“What does it mean to be a Christian?”  Have you ever thought about that? Not just how you become a Christian, but what does genuine Christianity look like?  Ephesians 4 tells us that Christians should not be walking like unbelievers do.  There is a major difference between walking worthy of the cross and walking like any normal person would.  Three major views of what “Christianity” is that seem popular around the world today:

 •  Giving up sin (Sacrifice group)

•  Being like Jesus (Like Jesus group)

•  Believing in God (Spiritual group)

All of these sound good separately, and they all have Scriptural support, but none of these individually is enough to cover what Christianity is.  Ephesians 4:22-24 tells us that we must put off the old (giving up the sin), be renewed in our minds (believing in God), and put on the new (be like Jesus).  All three are aspects of a more complete picture of what it means to walk worthy of our Hope.  Removing any of these aspects presents a skewed picture of what being a Christian really is.  So the question we are left with is – which aspect of Christianity are we emphasizing at the expense of the rest?
